Help Desk Administrator

9 Story Media Group is an industry leading creator, producer and distributor of award-winning animated and live action content for young audiences around the world. 9 Story has produced over 900 animated and live action episodes, seen on some of the world’s most respected children’s channels.

Reporting to the IT Manager (Toronto), the Help Desk Administrator will provide technical assistance and support for incoming help desk tickets and issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve problems related to operating systems, hardware and software in a timely and courteous manor
  • Installing new software releases, system upgrades
  • Provide first line response for users requiring assistance with information technology issues and problems via the IT helpdesk
  • Ensure that Helpdesk SLA are met and communicated to end user base. 
  • Repair/recovery of end user hardware and software
  • Escalation of helpdesk ticket to 2nd level when required
  • Manage helpdesk tickets and weekly reporting on helpdesk tickets
  • Escalation of all unresolved issues to System Administrator or IT Manager
  • Anti-virus administration
  • End user account administration 
  • Hardware inventory, asset tracking and monitoring 
  • Liaise with vendors
  • Software release management under supervision of senior administrators 
  • Expertise in Microsoft OS systems – Windows 7 and Windows 10
  • Experienced in high-level hardware support (client machines, printers etc)
  • Experience in supporting a complex and advanced user base
  • Ability to work in a challenging and fast paced environment
  • Recognizes the importance of clear and timely communication of all high severity IT or facilities impacting issues to the IT manager
  • Keeps abreast of emerging technologies.

  • Knowledge of Ms Office, Microsoft Windows server 2008/2012, Microsoft Windows 7, Fedora, Debian
  • Has knowledge and is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong inter personal skills; ability to explain simple procedures in writing or verbally; good phone skills 
  • Strong ability to learn; ability to follow instructions well; strong analytical skills
  • A love of Technology is advantageous.

Production Accountant

9 Story Media Group is seeking a full time in-house Production Accountant in our Toronto office.

The Production Accountant will support a wide variety of production content and oversee the accounting on multiple in-house productions. The chosen candidate will work closely with the line producer and production manager and be responsible for all production and associated cost reporting and accounting, managing production payroll, as well as various accounting duties within the department.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor production budgets, analyze costs and expenditures, analyze cost reports and forecast Estimated Final Costs
  • Work with production to gather and maintain appropriate union / non-union start paperwork, deal memos, contracts and timesheets for processing
  • Process bi-weekly union and non-union production payroll
  • Manage production petty cash and AP processes
  • Process bill-backs of corporate costs
  • Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts
  • Assist with financial month end close and daily accounting activity on tight deadlines
  • Review/audit expense reports ensuring compliance with the company policy. Escalate requests and issues to the appropriate party in a timely basis
  • Calculate CAVCO, OPSTC, OFFTC, and OCASE tax credits
  • Deliver breakdown of Costs for CRTC and OMDC
  • Compile information for production company audits.
  • Review HST returns
  • Book adjusting entries to correct prior periods
  • Preparation of ad hoc production company financial analysis as requested by management
  • Prepare production company information for inclusion in quarterly reporting, including revenue recognition according to the appropriate financial accounting framework

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
  • Possess an outstanding problem solving skills and enjoys working in a challenging, fast-paced environment

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of combined production and accounting experience.
  • Designated or working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred.
  • Experience in film or TV production and knowledge of tax, union, guild and relevant government regulations.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the production process and experience with budgets and weekly cost reports.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in performing all essential duties.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and highly motivated/proactive.
  • Knowledge and experience with EP software processing an asset.
  • Proficiency with Excel is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical skills.
  • The ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and manage time effectively; manage work under pressure and manage tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and able to handle multiple requests in order of priority.

Technical Services Coordinator

Report to: Head of Technical Services (9 Story Distribution, Toronto)
Department: Distribution

The Technical Services Coordinator will manage and support the distribution and postproduction departments. This is a client-facing role with heavy impact on client satisfaction and sales revenues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deliveries 
Coordinate and track deliveries for International Broadcasters:

  • Liaise with Accounting and Legal teams on coordination of deliveries to make sure that the materials in the contract reflect our assets;
  • Review production schedules and alert all affected clients of production delays to give our clients as much time as possible to accurately schedule our content and maintain good working relationships with 9 Story;
  • Compile weekly deliveries reports for accounting purposes to keep invoicing moving forward upon delivery of materials.
  • Administer and Deliver materials via Extranet to broadcasters/dubbing facilities.
SVOD deliveries:
  • Compile and create metadata for titles acquired by SVOD clients presenting our content in the best possible light on their platforms;
  • Work with SVOD clients and their preferred vendors on creation of materials for SVOD sales, handling as much as possible in house to keep costs down; 
  • Learn new deliveries platforms and client partner portals;
  • Liaise with Marketing on delivery of tailored SVOD images, accessing our designers and artists to ensure our content looks world class.
Acquisitions deliveries:
  • Work with 3rd party producers and the Director of Distribution & Acquisitions to obtain all required materials listed within the contract and assuring the materials meet 9 Story’s technical specifications;
  • Coordinate and Operate QC inspection of assets upon receipt to avoid problems for future sales;
  • Work with Production to obtain additional support materials for clients to ensure our clients have all the materials they need.
Versioning
  • Gather quotes and negotiating with dubbing houses for upcoming and potential projects. Determine the right dubbing facility for the program and amassing a general idea of the cost of dubbing in certain languages;
  • Work with dubbing houses to ensure timely and efficient delivery to broadcaster acting as the main point of contact between the Dubbing Studio and the Broadcaster, ensuring all applicable materials are sent to 9 Story at time of delivery to avoid issues with future sales.
Editorial
  • Create screeners, clips & digital masters for sales, acquisitions & clients from existing files, limiting out of house costs for creation.
  • Assist in editorial needs for sales and marketing teams creating content for display at markets and screening clips.
  • Liaise with internal Head of Post Production on Distribution needs while keeping production appraised of Distribution requirements.
  • Advise Sales/Development on best practices for displaying video in various presentations, including creating screening master files.
Required Experience/Professional Skills:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Post Production environment with a strong technical background in delivery formats
  • Technical knowledge of HD/SD file based delivery including encoding a variety of different file formats
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Premiere/Final Cut Pro and comfortable on both Mac/Windows platforms
  • Proven experience working with encoding applications and automated QC tools
  • Experience in managing projects on shared media storage and cloud storage
  • Solid organization and project management skills, and independently manage a high volume of work, prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Able to effectively manage client/supplier expectations through clear and professional communication
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within the team.
Would be nice:
  • Previous experience coordinating mastering and dubbing projects an asset
  • Experience with web based digital asset management preferred

Pipeline Technical Director (2D)


As Pipeline Technical Director, you will be responsible for the delivery of production-ready tools for our 2D animated production pipeline. You will provide technical support to the current 2D Production. You will solve technical issues, automating Shotgun, rendering and will support the asset and shot production pipelines.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor industry best practices and standards to have a total understanding of the studio needs
  • Develop efficient, readable, commented code with Object Oriented programming best practices
  • Lead development and implementation of production pipelines for all studio productions
  • Author and maintain in-house documentation
  • Participate in 'post mortems' with production teams
  • Recommend solutions to ensure technical decisions are made in an efficient and timely manner to increase efficiency
  • Maintain the ongoing monitoring of current productions to ensure Pipeline stability
  • Design and maintain Pipeline technical project milestones
  • Identifying inefficiencies in the production Pipeline and propose and design solutions
  • Responding to Shotgun Helpdesk requests and provide 2nd level support to other team members
  • Consulting with Development and Technology departments in designing bespoke software
  • Mentoring and work closely with other technical directors

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:
  • Strong programming and debugging experience with Python, JS, and QT Script
  • Experience in development with a global team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A positive attitude in stressful situations

  • Experience with Toon Boom Harmony

Rigger

DEPARTMENT NAME: Rigging
REPORT TO: Rigging Supervisor

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Rigging Artist will be responsible for taking vector art created by the design team and distributing it to working rigged hierarchy in Harmony, adjusting the hierarchy to fit character specific requirements. They must be able to follow established rigging conventions, style, and production specific template layouts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to communicate and work in collaboration with Design, Animation and Scene Planning
  • Must be able to set up a character so that the character/prop can move in the desired manner
  • Identify problems and ask for help when needed
  • Aims for consistency of the rigs throughout the production 
  • Test rigs, and ensure that they will hold up in animation
  • Must have great organizational skills and ability to follow established conventions
  • Being able to take direction and implement 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong working knowledge of 2D Rigging principles
  • Strong drawing skills are an asset

Layout Supervisor


The Layout Supervisor will be responsible for reviewing the animatic, creating a break down list and assigning the layouts. Review and approve layouts to ensure that the team is following the style or the existing series and maintaining the integrity of the style. Provide guidance and mentoring to all layout team members. Ensure team is meeting all deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Collaborate with the layout and design team to create the layout and style parameters to the layout team
  • Lead the development of layout team
  • Manage and build relationships with layout and design team
  • Oversea the project management of all assets
  • Able to balance multiple deadlines at any given moment. Meets or exceeds these deadlines
  • Able to communicate the layout and style parameters to the layout team and guide them to stay on track
  • Able to problem solve quickly and proactively raise concerns and solutions 
  • Able to easily catch faults in layouts and have them corrected before being sent to the Director or Clients for approval
  • Able to easily adapt to different style of shows
  • Solid understanding of all stages of the pipeline and how to optimize the layout teams role within it
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong working knowledge of 2D layout principles

Supervising Producer

At 9 Story Media Group, we know that our greatest asset is our team. We are currently hiring for a superstar to join our Production team. This role will be responsible for working closely with Producers and Artists on multiple shows.

The Supervising Producer is responsible for the oversight of various productions, maintaining consistent, high-quality support for the Production team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the efforts of multiple production crews simultaneously; 
  • Create new bids, budgets and schedules for current and potential projects; 
  • Guide and support the Producers to maintain their budget, schedule, deliveries and ensuring positive team and client relationships;
  • Support the team with tools and ideas to work more efficiently and foster a culture of creative solutions;
  • Work alongside Development to bring shows into production;
  • Partner with clients, writers, directors, producers, department leads and the production office; 
  • Help to create a positive team atmosphere and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in a same or similar role;
  • Strong working knowledge of the 2D animation pipeline, and extensive knowledge of each phase of production (script through to post-production);
  • Excellent numeracy skills and fiscal literacy - able to create budgets to ensure proactive solutions are implemented;
  • Organized with excellent time management skills, able to efficiently balance multiple productions;
  • Knowledge and experience with WGC, WGA, ACTRA IPA and Canadian funding regulations;
  • Able to build and sustain relationships with internal teams, external teams, clients and broadcasters;
  • Able to handle sensitive, confidential information appropriately with sound judgment and discretion;
  • Well-developed communication skills with a focus on diplomacy and discretion;
  • Authentic and open-minded, with a great sense of humour.

Production Manager

REPORTS TO: Producer

CONTRACT TYPE: Full-Time


ROLE OVERVIEW:


The Production Manager works closely with the Producer and production team to provide support as needed, ensuring coordination of the daily workflow of production materials at each stage of the production. Acts as a liaison between Producer, Director and crew, and works with the Creative Director to communicate creative priorities throughout the productions as required.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure coordination of the daily workflow of production materials (ex. Scripts, storyboards, animatics, designs etc.);
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication with all crew and freelancers;
  • Ensure all departments have the appropriate production assets and infrastructure in order to successfully execute in their roles and according to schedule;
  • Log and track all production activities and distributed materials, ensuring prompt distribution of production correspondence to internal and external clients/personnel (e-mail, courier, fax, etc.);
  • Review clearance and standard & practice reports to determine any required changes;
  • Maintain distribution and contact lists, credit beds etc.;
  • Attend creative review and approval sessions to help determine their impact on production;
  • Work closely with the Producer to propose solutions to any production challenges;
  • Support script coordination and preparation of record draft scripts, final production draft scripts, fine cut scripts;
  • Attend recording sessions and provide support in casting, record preparation and attendance;
  • Support design coordination, list, reviews, approvals and assignments;
  • Provide assistance with revisions/animation coordinating.

INDIVIDUAL SKILLS:

  • 4+ years of experience in same or similar role;
  • Strong understanding of the 2D animation pipeline;
  • Able to proactively recognize challenges, flag them to the Producer and provide possible solutions;
  • Strong understanding of the production ecosystem and deadlines;
  • Level-headed when working against tight timelines;
  • Support team to achieve their goals, leveraging coaching and performance best practices;
  • Able to identify areas of improvement within the pipeline, working with the Technical Director to find appropriate solutions;
