Supervising Producer

At 9 Story Media Group, we know that our greatest asset is our team. We are currently hiring for a superstar to join our Production team. This role will be responsible for working closely with Producers and Artists on multiple shows.

The Supervising Producer is responsible for the oversight of various productions, maintaining consistent, high-quality support for the Production team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the efforts of multiple production crews simultaneously; 
  • Create new bids, budgets and schedules for current and potential projects; 
  • Guide and support the Producers to maintain their budget, schedule, deliveries and ensuring positive team and client relationships;
  • Support the team with tools and ideas to work more efficiently and foster a culture of creative solutions;
  • Work alongside Development to bring shows into production;
  • Partner with clients, writers, directors, producers, department leads and the production office; 
  • Help to create a positive team atmosphere and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in a same or similar role;
  • Strong working knowledge of the 2D animation pipeline, and extensive knowledge of each phase of production (script through to post-production);
  • Excellent numeracy skills and fiscal literacy - able to create budgets to ensure proactive solutions are implemented;
  • Organized with excellent time management skills, able to efficiently balance multiple productions;
  • Knowledge and experience with WGC, WGA, ACTRA IPA and Canadian funding regulations;
  • Able to build and sustain relationships with internal teams, external teams, clients and broadcasters;
  • Able to handle sensitive, confidential information appropriately with sound judgment and discretion;
  • Well-developed communication skills with a focus on diplomacy and discretion;
  • Authentic and open-minded, with a great sense of humour.

C++/Python Software Developer (TD)

9 Story Media Group is looking for a Software Developer (TD) to collaborate in the creation and delivery of production-ready tools for its TV production pipeline. The Software Developer (TD) will work with the team to architect & develop production tools and supporting modules. In this role you will support the team with solving technical issues, automating Shotgun, rendering, as well as supporting the asset and shot production pipelines. Working with a centrally-managed Pipeline development team, you will work closely with the Head of Pipeline R&D to support and develop the pipeline and tools.

 Role Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring industry best practices and standards to have a total understanding of the studio needs
  • Develop efficient, readable, commented code with Object Oriented programming best practices
  • Lead development and implementation of production pipelines for all studio productions
  • Author and maintain in-house documentation
  • Participate in 'post mortems' with production teams
  • Recommend solutions to ensure technical decisions are made in an efficient and timely manner to increase efficiency
  • Maintain the ongoing monitoring of current productions to ensure Pipeline stability
  • Design and maintain Pipeline technical project milestones
  • Identifying inefficiencies in the production Pipeline and propose and design solutions
  • Responding to Shotgun Helpdesk requests and provide 2nd level support to other team members
  • Consulting with Development and Technology departments in designing bespoke software
  • Mentoring and work closely with other technical directors

Role Responsibilities:
  • 5 years+ experience analyzing, and developing Object Oriented Programming (C++, Python)
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Foundation Class and Standard C++ Library, (and related technologies XML, HTML, XSL, AJAX, JavaScript, Web services)
  • Knowledge of the SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) process, ITIL methodology, and Database management skills
  • Knowledge of Distributed Version Control Systems (git)
  • Knowledge of Linux and/or BSDs
  • Works well in a team and independently

Bonus Skills:
  • Experience with Shotgun
  • Experience developing clean and efficient User Interfaces
  • Tool development for Adobe products: eg Photoshop, Premiere
  • Familiarity with the 2D animation production process would be an asset
  • Experience with Toon Boom Harmony

Production Manager

REPORTS TO: Producer

CONTRACT TYPE: Full-Time


ROLE OVERVIEW:


The Production Manager works closely with the Producer and production team to provide support as needed, ensuring coordination of the daily workflow of production materials at each stage of the production. Acts as a liaison between Producer, Director and crew, and works with the Creative Director to communicate creative priorities throughout the productions as required.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure coordination of the daily workflow of production materials (ex. Scripts, storyboards, animatics, designs etc.);
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication with all crew and freelancers;
  • Ensure all departments have the appropriate production assets and infrastructure in order to successfully execute in their roles and according to schedule;
  • Log and track all production activities and distributed materials, ensuring prompt distribution of production correspondence to internal and external clients/personnel (e-mail, courier, fax, etc.);
  • Review clearance and standard & practice reports to determine any required changes;
  • Maintain distribution and contact lists, credit beds etc.;
  • Attend creative review and approval sessions to help determine their impact on production;
  • Work closely with the Producer to propose solutions to any production challenges;
  • Support script coordination and preparation of record draft scripts, final production draft scripts, fine cut scripts;
  • Attend recording sessions and provide support in casting, record preparation and attendance;
  • Support design coordination, list, reviews, approvals and assignments;
  • Provide assistance with revisions/animation coordinating.

INDIVIDUAL SKILLS:

  • 4+ years of experience in same or similar role;
  • Strong understanding of the 2D animation pipeline;
  • Able to proactively recognize challenges, flag them to the Producer and provide possible solutions;
  • Strong understanding of the production ecosystem and deadlines;
  • Level-headed when working against tight timelines;
  • Support team to achieve their goals, leveraging coaching and performance best practices;
  • Able to identify areas of improvement within the pipeline, working with the Technical Director to find appropriate solutions;
  • Sound judgment and discretion while managing sensitive, confidential information.
  • Superior communication skills, able to work autonomously and in a team setting.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, with superior agility navigating multiple priorities and/or difficult situations.
  • Ability to influence and drive results, building relationships with both staff and leadership.
  • Professional and friendly with a flexible attitude.
  • Computer literacy and advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, as well as Gmail and Google applications.
