Dublin, Ireland – January 17, 2017 – 9 Story Distribution International, the international distribution arm of 9 Story Media Group, and Funwood Media are pleased to announce they have joined forces on the live action tween series entitled Monica Chef (40 x 22’). Produced by Funwood Media (Spain & Italy), Isla Audiovisual (Spain), and 3zero2 (Italy), 9 Story has acquired worldwide distribution rights (excluding Italy and Spain). Funwood has licensed the series to Disney Channel Italy.
The series follows 16-year-old Monica, who has a chance to realize her dreams of becoming a top chef after winning a scholarship to the most prestigious culinary academy in the city. Finding herself struggling to keep up with the school’s haute cuisine training, so different than the cooking style she’s grown up with in her father’s pizzeria, Monica often turns to musical daydreams to help her find her way.
Created by Rafa Garcia (Oliver Rock, La Pecera de Eva) and David Garcia (Rabia, La Lista tonta), Monica Chef is directed by Manual Sanabria (La Fiesta, Sin Fin) and César Arriero (Rabia, Frágiles, La Pecera de Eva) and stars newcomer Isabel Madolell as Monica. It is currently in production in Spain and Italy and is expected to premiere in Italy in the spring. Aimed at a 6-11 year old audience, the series is packed with original musical numbers ranging in style from ballads to pop and from jazz to funk.
