9 Story has secured distribution rights to Funwood's new musical tween series, which is already set for a Disney Channel Italy debut this spring.
9 Story Distribution International, the global arm of Canada’s 9 Story Media Group, has picked up worldwide rights (excluding Spain and Italy) to Funwood Media’s new tween series Monica Chef.
Produced by Spain-based Funwood, in collaboration with Isla Audiovisual and Italy’s 3zero2, the 40 x 22-minute series is aimed at six- to 11-year-olds.
It follows 16-year-old Monica as she lives out her dream of becoming a top chef. After winning a scholarship to a prestigious culinary school, she struggles with the style of cooking and instead starts having musical daydreams. The show includes original musical numbers featuring ballads, pop, jazz and funk.
Funwood, which holds rights to Monica Chef in Spain and Italy, has already licensed the series to Disney Channel Italy, where it will air in the spring.
The deal comes the day after 9 Story announced the sale of animated comedy Camp Lakebottom to Disney Latin America. The company also recently licensed 800 episodes to Asian broadcasters and 200 episodes to Disney Services in Asia-Pacific.
