9 Story Secures Commission for its Live-Action Production Survivorman Kids from Canada's YTV
YTV Joins 9 Story as Co-Production Partner in Kid-Inspiring Series
Toronto, CA - April 1, 2008
On the heels of announcing plans to expand into live-action production, Canadian-based, multi-award winning production and distribution studio 9 Story Entertainment has received a commission from Canada's YTV for 13 episodes of their new live-action series entitled Survivorman Kids (working title).
The company announced their development deal with wilderness survival expert and filmmaker Les Stroud in October at MIPCOM 2007, to jointly develop a live-action series for kids inspired by his Discovery Channel (USA) and OLN (Canada) reality series Survivorman.
"We're thrilled to be working with Les Stroud and YTV on an inaugural live-action series. This show will inspire kids to reach much higher than they ever thought they could," said Vince Commisso, CEO 9 Story Entertainment. "This partnership is proof positive of our commitment to seek out projects with strong appeal and potential, and to take them from development, to production and delivery within a targeted time-frame."
Survivorman Kids will take a team of six 14 to 16 year-olds into the wilderness for three weeks, with Les Stroud serving as their mentor and survivor skill judge. Les will deploy his experience in the wild and personable communication style to take the participants on a journey where they start off as average kids with little or no outdoor experience, to confident, outdoor adventurers, able to confront anything nature may throw their way. Faced with unexpected setbacks, the six participants vie for a chance to fulfill an individual dream they hold dear, driving them to complete the challenges in front of them, no matter what.
"Les Stroud doesn't just play Survivorman - he lives it, demonstrating his skill, experience, and ingenuity in some of the most extreme environments on our planet," said Scott Dyer, EVP and General Manager, Corus Kids Television. "On this unique YTV offering, he'll show our audiences that they have the same capability, both mentally and physically, and give kids a chance to test themselves in the wild outdoors."
