9 Story Announces Summer Production Lineup
Emerging Toronto studio adds new properties to its award winning roster
Toronto, June 1, 2006
9 Story Entertainment, known for its award
winning animated children's programs, is pleased to announce that it will be working on
five new projects throughout the summer.
9 Story and WGBH Boston will be producing a third season of Peep and the Big Wide
World for Discovery Kids and TVO. The Emmy and Gemini Award winning show
follows the adventures of Peep, the young chicken and his friends Chirp the robin and
Quack the irrepressible blue duck, as they discover the fascinating world that surrounds
them. Earlier this year, Peep and the Big Wide World received its second Emmy
nomination.
9 Story will also be teaming with WGBH to produce 10 new episodes of Postcards From
Buster, which combines animation and live action sequences to introduce children to
different cultures. Also in production this summer are 14 new episodes of the preschool
series Max & Ruby, a continuation of a relationship between YTV/Treehouse and
Nelvana, both Corus companies.
9 Story will be continuing production on the action-adventure series Skyland, a coproduction
with Method Films in Paris, which is currently airing in Canada on Teletoon
(Saturdays and Sundays at 7:30pm), as well as the latest season of Jacob Two-Two,
which will air on YTV in the fall.
While the diversity of projects and production partnerships continue to flourish, 9
Story's current projects focus on building stability and creative depth. Production
volume for 2006 will reach approximately $11 million, compared to just under $10
million in the 2005 calendar year. In total, 9 Story will deliver 45 half hours of
programming this year. The company is in the later stages of negotiation for projects
scheduled to start late 2006/early 2007.
"We have always been cautious of growing too big too fast," explained Vince Commisso,
partner and executive producer, 9 Story Entertainment. "Right now we are exactly
where we want and need to be. Annual production volume goals are in the $10 to $15
million range and at this activity level, we can allocate more resources towards product
research, expanding our development slate and improving production processes."
