9 Story's Harriet to Spy on Disney Channels Worldwide
Harriet the Spy Set for 2010 Premiere
CANNES - October 3, 2009
Multi-award-winning production and distribution company 9 Story Entertainment has pre-sold its newest live-action movie, Harriet the Spy, to Disney Channel announced today by CEO Vince Commisso. Based on the classic books by Louise Fitzhugh, Harriet the Spy features Harriet Welsch, one of the most iconic characters in literature.
9 Story will produce and distribute the movie which will premiere worldwide on all Disney Channels beginning in 2010. The co-production is the first of its kind for Disney Channel.
High schooler HARRIET "THE SPY" WELSCH is determined to become her class blogger. Competing against her nemesis - the very popular Marion Hawthorne - Harriet sets out to do whatever it takes for the honor. So when Harriet's father, movie producer Roger Welsch signs a deal to make a sequel to the smash hit teen-musical, SPY HIGH, Harriet senses her perfect opportunity. Harriet, despite her disdain for him, decides to blog about Skander Hill, the movie's popular teen heart-throb with hilariously catastrophic results!
2 Friends Entertainment principals, Nancy Steingard and Wendy Moss-Klein will also serve as Executive Producers.
"Our partnership with Disney Channel for a worldwide premiere of Harriet the Spy underscores the enduring appeal of Fitzhugh's classic novel. Our contemporary interpretation of universal themes for children and families will make Harriet the Spy relevant and entertaining for today's audience," said Commisso.
David Levine, Vice President, Worldwide Programming Strategy, Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Disney Channels Worldwide, said, "As our first global movie alliance, we are thrilled to be collaborating with 9 Story to bring a fresh new version of Harriet to our audience worldwide."
